Solar Energy-Mechanical Energy Conversion

In the early of 20^th century, Russian physical scientists experimentally demonstrated that light possessed pressure. In 1920s, Russian physical scientists proposed that the space shuttle could be pushed forward by the huge solar sail in the universe space under the pressure of sunlight, which the solar energy could be directly converted into mechanical energy. It is estimated by scientists that in the near future of 10 to 20 years, the concept of solar sail can be realized.

Generally speaking, conversion of solar energy into mechanical energy requires an intermediate process to precede indirect conversion.
