Technology Progress In Salinity Gradient Energy

Research on salinity gradientenergy pioneered in U.S and Israel. China, Swedan and Japan also developed the research. But in general, the research of salinity gradientenergy only remains in the stage of experiment test, which has a long way to the demonstration and application. 

From 1970s to 1980s, scientist in Israel and U.S also conducted experiment research on the water pressure tower and mighty infiltration system. Chinese Xian Metallurgy Construction Institute also conducted the experiment research on water pressure tower system in 1985. The upper water tank was 10m higher than the infiltration equipment. It can work 8 to 14 hour by 30kg dry salt with the generation power of 0.9 to 1.2W. Furthermore, U.S also carried out the research on dialysis cells. 

The key technology to develop the salinity gradient energy is the membrane technology. Only if the infiltration rate of semi-infiltrated membrane can be raised to a quantity scale on the basis of the present level and the seawater does not need to be pretreated, does the utilization of salt difference energy realize its commercialization.
