Wave Energy Project
In Portugal
Portugal is also the most important country to research and develop the wave energy in recent years. One set of 0.5kW on-shore oscillating water column wave power station is being built under the cooperation of Lisbon University and Portugal Industrial Technology Institute and supported by EC and the Portugal Government. The power station locates in Bikor Island, which has completed its agent structure and is scheduled to produce electricity in 1999. The air chamber of power station is in the width of 12m, depth of 12m, height in the rooftop of 20m, draft of front wall of 2.5m. The symmetrical wing turbine with the diameter of 2.3m has moveable vane in the front and backside and can work ranging from 750 to 1500r/min. The rated power of generator is 400kW. It is the biggest wave power station in the world. The power station is scheduled to operate with relative phase control technology in order to improve the output in the irregular wave.
