Geothermal in New Zealand

New Zealand is the country in the world that took the lead in utilizing steam-water hybrid geothermal liquid based on liquid water to produce electricity. The first set of Wairakei power station was put into run at the end of 1958. Tasman paper pulp mill, another major consumer of geothermal energy in the world, took the advantage of 170¡ãC water discharged from the dual circular sets of Kawerau geothermal power station to produce clean steam through evaporator so as to treat firewood, evaporate pulp and dry paper. New Zealand implemented the management of geothermal resource and other mineral resources (for example coal and iron) along with that of land, air, forestry, ecology, water resource, environment and natural landscape resources, combining the resource development closely with environment protection.
