Geothermal in China

The utilization of spring resources in China has a long history record. In the early of the 1970s, the geologist advocated utilizing the geothermal energy as renewable energy. Until 1990, the consumption of geothermal energy except for generation has ranked the second position in the world. For 20 years, in the aspect of utilization of geothermal energy, China has established Yangbajing geothermal demonstration base in Tibet, Tianjian geothermal heat supply demonstration base, 4 agricultural utilization demonstration bases for Tianjin, Hebai, Henan and Fujian academy of agricultural sciences, and Hunan geothermal field demonstration county on scientific management technologies; and has developed assessment on geothermal resources, conducted research on high temperature geothermal development, utilization technologies on warm house, aquatic cultivation, living through the winter, breeding and high production, major technologies on geothermal utilization engineering, environment impact and prevention, and research and promotion of integrated utilization and management of geothermal energy. Certain scales of development and utilization and geothermal industry have been formed.

Right now, the quantity of development and utilization of geothermal energy only covered a little in the primary consumption quantity in the whole country in view of the statistic figure. However, it has played an important role in those counties who have developed the utilization of geothermal energy, flourishing the local economy and improving their living condition. Since the energy is still absent in the county, the utilization technology of geothermal energy is comparatively easily to master.
